Apistogramma sp. "opal"
Another Apistogramma species, Apistogramma sp. "opal"

During my first visit to Akvariehulen in Frederikshavn in 2003, I noticed this Apistogramma, which I couldn't resist. I haven't been able to find it online anywhere, except for one place where it is mentioned as an A. borelli variant.
In the aquarium it is very interesting to observe - it took very quickly one of my half coconut caves in possesion and from there it kept every other tank mate at bay. It is a fish with very delicate colors, but it is still very pretty in an elegant sort of way. The way it was swimming was also very elegant and it could swim through the cave opening side wards with a grace like no other.
I was going to examine the species closer, but unfortunately the male died after a few months and the female also died half a year later. The chances that I will encounter this species again is slim to none, but if I did, I would be very tempted to give it another try.
An elegant swimmer with discrete colors and distinctive behaviour

Hej.

Hej.
