The Labidochromis sp. "hongi" was much more beautiful in the picture...

I had 3 young L. sp. "hongi", a fish that certainly does not brag with it's colors until it is fully grown. Mine was far from grown and therefore also a bit to the boring side color wise. In the picture, you can see a Hongi starting to develop it's colors. It is said to be really beautiful when grown out, but it really takes time.

I never saw any fry, but it should be pretty easy to breed them, as long as you have a grown couple. While I was waiting for them to grow up, I hoped to see some breeding preparations or even maybe an early spawning, but I didn't have the luck I guess.

When I was generally cutting back on the Lake Malawi mbuna cichlids, I lost my patience, and sold these fish in December 2002.
